Currently, there is a lack of open debate nationally and on our own campus. We have witnessed a chilling effect on campus discourse and a subsequent increase of self-censorship. As a result of this environment, we hope to encourage a free exchange of ideas on Columbia’s campus to cultivate strong argumentation skills in club members that can be used to challenge contrary opinions in the future. We aim to promote both less division on campus as well as a more productive discourse.
