The Columbia University Tzu Chi Collegiate Association (TCCA) is the Columbia University section of the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, an international humanitarian and non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the promotion of charity, medicine, education, and humanistic culture and connecting an international network of volunteers around the world. Founded in 1966 in Taiwan by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, Tzu Chi (literally "Compassionate Relief"), the largest NGO in the Chinese-speaking world, conducts humanitarian work through its four missions of charity, medicine, education, and humanistic culture. A major civil society actor, the Tzu Chi Foundation has approximately 10 million members and supporters across chapters in 50 counties. Its volunteers have built many hospitals and schools worldwide and distributed food, medicine, blankets, and clothing to victims of poverty and natural calamities. Countless numbers around the world have drawn succor from Tzu Chi's philanthropic beneficence. The Tzu Chi Foundation has several sub-organizations, such as the Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA), composed of professional medical personnel who travel overseas to volunteer their services in poor communities without access to medical care and during international disaster relief, and also the Tzu Chi Collegiate Association (TCCA, "Tzu Ching"), the foundation's youth organization with chapters at universities worldwide.
