CU Swing Dance is dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of the social and solo African American jazz dances of the 1920's-1940's, along with the incredible music, cultural history and very active community that they are linked to.
The club provides affordable weekly swing dance lessons covering foundational and more advanced material, taught by world-class professional teachers Evita Arce and Nathan Bugh. Lessons are open to anyone and everyone with a dodge fitness center membership - the atmostphere is welcoming and supportive. If you stick with it, you will learn how to swing dance!
In addition to lessons, the club hosts huge semesterly dances with fanatastic live bands, social dance sessions every Tuesday night, and workshops throughout the semester. The club also boasts its own audition-only performance troupe, which performs on campus and competes at various events, including the annual New York Intercollegiate Swing Exchange. New York City is home to a vibrant community of swing dancers and traditional jazz musicians, which CU Swing Dance Club members take full advantage of.
To join in on the fun, participate in an authentic aspect of American culture, and learn some new moves, email cuswingdanceclub@gmail.com or check out our Facebook page.
