Double Discovery Student Organization (DDSO)
Community Service & Volunteering
The Double Discovery Students Organization is an undergraduate education forum and volunteer hub for students of all majors and interests who want to lay the groundwork for sustainable, equitable future societies, societies that place particular emphasis on their educational systems. It is a forum with members of broad expertise looking to contribute what they know to constructions of the future and to learn what they don’t know from their peers. By holding weekly group “salons” (evening Zoom chats), hosting monthly guest speaker sessions with professionals ranging from classroom educators to grassroots activists, and by connecting Columbia students of diverse backgrounds and areas of study with one another, DDSO gives undergrads the opportunity to intellectually engage with the realities and possibilities of educational systems in the US and beyond. The DDSO then gives undergrads the opportunity to translate their ideas and passion into concrete action through tutoring and mentoring with Columbia's Double Discovery Center, a non-profit working to propel high school students from Harlem and Washington Heights to, through, and beyond college. If you are looking for an intellectual space that opens up new avenues in your mind, as well as new avenues for action in NYC and beyond, the DDSO is for you.
