Girls Who Code at Columbia aims to provide early exposure to computer science for high school girls in a supportive environment. We are driven to overcome the overwhelming gender gap in computer science. We also want to help Columbia students develop teaching and mentoring skills to further solidify their own computer science skills, and to build a community of Columbia students who identify with this cause. The mission of this organization is to provide on-campus computer science education to high school girls, specifically targeted towards underrepresented girls in New York City and surrounding area, according to the National Girls Who Code curriculum. This organization will also serve as an engagement platform for Columbia students to partake in technology and STEM-focused mentorship, instruction, and programming which will benefit both the Columbia community and the high school students.
