The Mixed Heritage Society of Columbia University is a campus organization that seeks to buildcommunity amongst students of mixed backgrounds, whether that be through race or ethnicity, mixed religious backgrounds, having parents of two different cultures and/or however else anindividual might define their identity in ways that encompasses the notion of being “mixed.” We aim to create a community by having discussions and holding events while acknowledging our members' backgrounds and allowing them to flourish in every aspect of their identity. This group hopes to give students the opportunity to rise to a position of leadership and to have their ideas and concerns be heard. The Executive Board serves to give mixed students a place on campus by offering a safe space for these students, facilitating discussions of topics relating to a mixed identity, holding events, and encouraging expression and visibility through a variety of media.
