The SGB represents and serves the needs of Columbia University student organizations whose concerns are religious, spiritual, political, ideological, humanitarian or activist in nature. The SGB is dedicated to the principle of community self-government, and believes that students' needs are best evoked, defined, and articulated by the students themselves.
The only governing board comprising students from all four undergraduate schools, the Student Governing Board (SGB) represents political, religious, activist, and humanitarian groups on campus. Created to meet student demands for a self-governing student caucus during the '68 protests, the SGB has traditionally served as the guardian of free speech and students' rights on campus. All SGB meetings are open, and take place at 9:00 PM on Tuesdays in the Lerner 302.
