The Columbia Lion has primarily been an online publication. We have crafted a platform specifically designed for online discourse and discussion for the members of the Columbia community to interact. Our teams include Journalism, Technology, Campus Outreach, and Creative. So far, we have created a number of initiatives to enhance community discourse, including Lion Guides, Lion Profiles, and community editorials.
Lion Guides are guides specifically targeted at particular groups on campus who fit into a specific niche. Some of the populations helped by our guides include student theater goers, first-year students, vegetarians, students looking to save money, and much more. By combining the resources and information from many of the groups related to each guide, we are able to compile an accurate, yet plentiful, list of resources and information.
Also, our tech team has been working on Facebook messenger bots to help students better navigate the Columbia community. Our bot demoed at this year’s DevFest, and includes features that help students navigate campus dining and breaking news. We hope to further help the student body by integrating resources about mental health.
