Mission Statement: No one should have to make financial decisions as it relates to whether one has enough money to eat or buy groceries. Food insecurity is an underrepresented issue. Every day, thousands of college students across the country make tough economic and dietary decisions in pursuit of higher education. Recognizing the gravity of such decisions means we are compelled to act. We, as part of the Columbia University family, must force the issue of food insecurity into the spotlight to understand the magnitude of these decisions.
Columbia University is, above everything else, a family. When one member of our family goes hungry, we all suffer. The toll of an Ivy League education is only compounded when hunger is a constant presence. The Food Pantry at Columbia envisions a campus in which every student, regardless of their affiliation or socioeconomic status, has sufficient access to nutritious food. Our mission is to relieve hunger through the acquisition and distribution of food to those students who most need it and to lead our campus community in the fight against hunger.
