AED is a nationally recognized honor society open to all pre-health students. We take pride in our community that welcomes students of diverse backgrounds and paths who resonate with the common goal of pursuing a career in healthcare. No matter what career in the medical field you want to get into, you will find your place in AED. AED is honored to offer elite programs that will help aspiring medical professionals find their "why medicine."
We have various partnerships with Penn State College of Medicine to offer mentorship and community health-related service opportunities to pre-health students. Our partnership with the BRIDGE medical students at PSCOM's University Park campus enables undergraduate students to gain mentorship and professional development advice from first and second-year medical students. Our recent partnerships with Penn State's Lion Care Student-Ran Free Clinic in Tyrone, Pennsylvania and PSCOM's Health Literacy Initiative have enabled students to engage in both clinical and non-clinical community health-related service. We also execute annual Diversity in Healthcare conferences in partnership with PSCOM, through which students gain valuable critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills while developing awareness of the disparities that plague our healthcare system.
Our expansive shadowing network provides members with unique opportunities to observe a day in the life of various medical professions. Our internal volunteer projects aim to engage students in non-clinical efforts that positively impact patient experiences and combat social determinants of health around Centre Country. We offer various student-led professional development workshops that offer students medical school application advice, opportunities to get involved in undergraduate research, and more. Through our peer mentoring program, underclassmen have the opportunity to be paired with a mentor who shares similar interests and career goals. We also feature medical expert speakers in our meetings and professional networking.
If we want to be doctors, physician assistants, dentists, nurses, or any other career in healthcare, we pre-health students have one thing in common: a true passion for serving others through medicine and a dedication to reach those goals. Through AED, we aim to cultivate this passion amongst organization members and achieve excellence in pursuit of our goals.
