Loneliness and isolation are common psychological symptoms prevalent in individuals suffering from intermediate-to-late-stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. To alleviate these symptoms, students at Penn State have joined to form the Alzheimer's Buddies at Penn State, a chapter of a national organization where student volunteers are paired 1-to-1 with dementia residents at Juniper Village, a senior care facility in State College. These students meet weekly with their buddies, forming new bonds and lasting relationships with those suffering from the terrible disorder. Additionally, the Alzheimer's Buddies at Penn State are committed to spreading awareness about Alzheimer's Disease by participating in and hosting fundraisers, as well as hosting talks on current advancements in Alzheimer's Disease research.
