The purposes of the BMES GSA are to foster a graduate student community focused on professional and academic development, be a liaison between graduate students and faculty to enhance communication, and provide graduate students involved in biomedical research with opportunities for growth in the following areas:
1. Research: opportunities to share research and encourage collaboration
2. Networking and Social: sense of integration, community, and unity amongst graduate students with similar interests
3. Career: exchange of ideas amongst graduate students, faculty, alumni, and professionals in the industry, platform for career-advancing workshops
4. Outreach: opportunity for graduate students to participate in and become aware of outreach opportunities on campus.
The BMES GSA will be open to any graduate student at University Park or Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center interested in or carrying out biomedical engineering-related research.The BMES GSA will be a part of the BMES Student Chapter PSU, which includes undergraduate student members within the BMES UGSA (BMES Student Chapter PSU, Undergraduate Student Association). The combined efforts and activities of both the BMES GSA and BMES UGSA will holistically represent the BMES Student Chapter PSU. The BMES GSA will work with BMES UGSA to jointly file an annual BMES Penn State Student Chapter activity report to the National BMES office. At the national level, the BMES GSA and BMES UGSA are one unity, representing the BMES PSU students.
