Essence of Joy is a renowned choir founded by Dr. Anthony Leach in 1991 that celebrates and dedicates itself to the learning and performing of music by African-American composers. To expand musical knowledge beyond western caucasian composers, EOJ performs and educates students about African and African-American music. Essence of Joy prides itself on its values of family, education, and musical talent and understanding. EOJ has been a fundamental group in the School of Music in providing a platform for under-represented groups and genres.
