Leadership Development
Alpha Pi Mu (APM) was founded in 1949 by Industrial Engineering (IE) students at Georgia Tech. It was created to be an organization that would allow students to exchange ideas and develop their professional networks. By 1959, Alpha Pi Mu became a part of the Association of College Honors Societies (ACHS), making it the only nationally accepted honors society for Industrial Engineering. Our Purdue University chapter is one of over 60 active chapters that exist today. Our mission is to recognize junior and senior students who have demonstrated academic excellence in the Department of Industrial Engineering and encourage them to further their knowledge and develop a strong professional network. APM frequently works with the other IE societies, such as IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers), to offer programs and activities to all of the Engineering students of Purdue. Membership is by invitation only to third year IE students in the top one fifth of their IE class and to fourth year IE students in the top one third of their IE class. Members work to improve the surrounding community by performing acts and duties that bring a greater understanding of Industrial Engineering to Indiana. On top of our community focus, Purdue's chapter aims to help its members in various capacities that provide value to their career and educational aspirations. Why should you join Alpha Pi Mu?Direct connections to networking opportunities with alumni, faculty, and company representativesAccess to professional development resources for suggestions on resumes, interviews, and visa/sponsorship informationLife membership and society award scholarship opportunitiesLeadership opportunities within the school of industrial engineeringAdvice from fellow IE students in different classesSocial, corporate, and career networking events and activitiesFun, inclusive opportunities to work with other industrial engineers
