University teams are challenged to create rovers that can perform various challenges in a simulated Martian environment. It is one of the world’s largest space vehicle/rover competitions with 84 teams from 13 countries registered just this year. Mission tasks vary year-to-year but typically focus on autonomous terrain traversal, habitat equipment servicing, presence-of-life extraction and detection, and extreme cargo retrieval and deposition.
