The Purdue Formula SAE team designs and builds a small race car for an engineering competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), typically held at the Michigan International Speedway. There are over 40 highly motivated members from various disciplines on subteams including chassis, suspension, powertrain, aerodynamics, and systems integration who work to design, manufacture, test, and compete with a new car each year. Collaboration across groups and across disciplines is key to a well-balanced car and cohesive team. Along with car performance, the competition evaluates design, business, and cost presentations. Through this process, team members gain technical, teamwork, and leadership skills.
