Horizon’s Student Support Club (HSSC), first and foremost, will provide support for all participating members that are first generation college students, academically and socially. Horizon’s Student Support Club understands the difficulties in adapting to a new environment especially for first-year college students. Horizon’s Student Support Club will help incoming freshmen by reducing the anxiety of a new environment and culture including the uncertainties that new students experience. Horizon’s Student Support Club’s goal is to balance the initial fear of a new culture by acting as a resource for HORIZONS’ students concerning Purdue University’s geographical layout, social integration, and personal and academic challenges. Horizon’s Student Support Club will also promote exemplary academic and ethical values to be successful throughout a student’s college career. Through HSSC’s experience, it is our hope to prepare and reinforce positive academic and social paths.HSSC will also (but not be limited to), encourage member’s involvement in Horizon’s Student Support Program throughout their academic stay at Purdue University as a “pay it forward” responsibility.
