A group of individuals who compete against other aviation colleges in flying and ground events. We are members of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA)Flying events:Power-on Landings: Try to land as close to a designated point as possible with the fewest penalties.Power-off Landings: Also try to land as close to a designated point but in a power off glide.Navigation: Plan and fly a short cross country and come as close to the planned times and fuel burn as possible.Message Drop: The pilot flies over designated targets and the dropper tosses out a container to try to hit the targets. The dropper doesn't have to be a pilot.Ground events:Simulated Comprehensive Air Navigation (SCAN): A test of your knowledge of everything needed to complete a flight safely such as Federal Aviation Regulations, flight planning, and weight and balance.Simulator: You fly a pattern with climbs, descents, and turns as accurately as possible. Great for instrument training.Aircraft Recognition: You are shown an aircraft for several seconds (military, civilian, airline, etc.) and you are asked to identify that aircraft.Preflight: You have 15 minutes to preflight a bugged aircraft to find as many problems as you can. Great for preflight skills.Computer Accuracy (CA): A manual flight computer is used to complete a test of various calculations.
