It is the mission of the Purdue Gold Standard to serve the Purdue community as well as the wider Lafayette/West Lafayette area to the fullest extent we can. Additionally, Purdue Gold Standard aims to serve those who serve: our members, Purdue students just like you, with the very same effort that they give out to their community. In pursuit of our goal of community service, our events normally take place out in the community, working alongside members of the community. Some examples of what we have done at events we have been a part of in the past include; preparing houses for winter with Winterization in West Lafayette, stocking food storage units with Food Finders Food Bank in Lafayette, and serving dinner to people at Lafayette Transitional Housing Center. More recently, we have looked into varying our opportunities to serve by considering options such as on-campus service and in-meeting volunteering. As for our members, we hope that being a part of PGS benefits you as much as it does the community. Along with the general benefits one gets from serving others, members gain insights into leadership, event planning, fundraising, and more. They have full latitude to design, prepare for, and run service events if they see an opportunity to be the change they want to see. For a member-ran initiative, PGS is there with as much support as is needed with the goals that the event sees success in whatever form that takes, and that the member who leads it gains those skills previously mentioned. Finally, we look to make this a great experience for our members and for PGS to be more than just a collection of people and instead a group of friends. In the past we have held various social events such as campus scavenger hunts, hosting club dinners or game nights, and teaming up for club intramurals. We look to continue to create these types of experiences as often as possible.
