For more information or to volunteer, visit https://engineering.purdue.edu/PurdueSpaceDay Organized by university students, Purdue Space Day (PSD) is an educational outreach program, which provides school students in grades 3-8 the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by participating in three age-appropriate activity sessions throughout the day. The grade school students are divided into three separate age ranges: Grades 3-4; Grades 5-6 and Grades 7-8. More than 700 schoolchildren will descend upon Purdue’s campus on October 29, 2022 for Purdue Space Day. Past VIP astronauts include: John Blaha, Mark Brown, John Casper, Andrew Feustel, Guy Gardner, Greg Harbaugh, Mark Polansky, Michael McCulley, Gary Payton, Loren Shriver, Scott Tingle, Janice Voss, Don Williams, David Wolf, Charles Walker, Jose Hernandez, and Buzz Aldrin. In addition to PSD being a successful educational outreach program, it is also a successful professional development program for university student volunteers. These student volunteers are vertically integrated maintaining a mix of freshman through graduate students each year. The student volunteers are multidisciplinary as the event draws students from across engineering and from other disciplines. Student participation is long term in order to maintain leadership and continuity from one year to the next.
