Originally chartered in 1875, the Delta Delta chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity was the first Greek organization on Purdue’s campus. Things have certainly changed over the years: Purdue is now home to the world’s 3rd largest college Greek community, with approximately 41 fraternities and 23 sororities on campus. We’re proud of our chapter’s pioneering efforts to establish Purdue’s current Greek community. Our fraternity has had consistent success for the past 125 years, a testament to our strong history of tradition and excellence. We feel as though our time-honored fraternal values of friendship, justice, and learning will continue to help develop young students into capable men and leaders of the future. Our chapter holds a special place in the hearts of our brothers. This fact is evidenced by our recent fundraising campaign and subsequent chapter house renovation. The project, completed in August 2007 and totaling near $7.4 million, is by far the largest renovation in the history of any Greek organization in the world (previous renovation was roughly $3.6 million). Some specific areas we pride ourselves in include our brotherhood, leadership, academics, philanthropic efforts, athletics, and social activities. We hold most dear the values of brotherhood and friendship. These core principles include qualities such as character, integrity, personal responsibility, and diversity; in fact, such traits are all heavily considered before any potential new member is invited to pledge our house. The subsequent bonds forged during new member pledgeship are notably strong and often last a lifetime. One important motto we value regards recruiting members with “different talents, temperaments, and convictions.” Such a belief is one of the reasons our chapter has been continually successful and productive. When surrounding oneself with other high-minded yet diversely-thinking individuals, one invariably raises countless personal and collective standards. Horizons are broadened, innovative thinking is fostered, and a mutual appreciation is gained for varying ideas and opinions. Our fraternity has a history of continued success in the academic arena as well. A distinguished degree is, after all, one of the top reasons for attending Purdue. Most recently, our chapter was ranked in the top half in grades of all fraternities on campus. This ranking is even more impressive when considering the rigorous academics for which Purdue is known, as well as the technical majors of many of the brothers in the house: engineering, computer science, computer technology, management, building construction management, accounting, etc. (to name just a few). Now for the fun stuff: As you know, college life is more than just academics! We also have a historical presence in many sports on campus. Past Purdue Sigma Chi brothers include quarterback greats such as Drew Breese, Bob Griese, and Mark Herrmann. Still, the majority of our brothers choose to focus their efforts on intramural sports. In addition, we participate in philanthropic events year-round, with our annual “Derby Days” philanthropy being one of the largest on campus. Furthermore, like many other Greek organizations, we also take part in a number of other university-sanctioned social events on campus. These events include both dry- and non-dry- activity functions. Our “Reggae Sunsplash” event is always a big hit within the Greek community; stop by next fall if you enjoy sunshine, Reggae music, a pool and (yes, even) waterfalls.Thank you for your time. We hope you enjoyed learning about our great institution, and we hope you can see just how special this fraternity chapter is to those members that have called 202 Littleton St. home.
