National HistorySigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded November 12, 1922 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven school teachers. They are Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Cubena McClure, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, and Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin. Chapter HistoryEpsilon Gamma Chapter was chartered on May 27, 1972 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The charter members, known as the Seven Spades, are Christine Arrington, Judith Bryant, Regina Duncan, Sandra Edmund, Marcella Haymer, Michaeline McGee, and Gwendolyn Williams.Due to a high number of graduating sorors, Epsilon Gamma Chapter was deactivated in 1985 and 2012. The torch was rekindled on November 18,1988, and again on March 27,2014. There have been a total of 28 membership classes inducted since the reactivation of Epsilon Gamma Chapter.
