Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885 to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges. The Indiana-Alpha chapter at Purdue focuses on giving back to the engineering community and the West Lafayette community by pooling the talents of the top engineers at Purdue. The requirements for becoming a member of our honor society are that you must be in either the top 1/8th of your junior class or the top 1/5th of your senior class. If you are a graduate student, you must have completed 50% of your coursework and 50% of your research as judged by your advisor. If you meet these initial requirements, you should hear from us. We will continue to evaluate potential members based on character and integrity before inducting the new members at the end of the semester.
