We are dedicated to exploring how urban development can be performed in an equitable, sustainable, healthy, and beneficial way, as well as understanding the deficiencies in our current development patterns. We meet weekly to engage in a variety of topics and events, including:- Book clubs: Last semester we read and discussed Jeff Speck's WALKABLE CITY: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time.- Discussion of local, state, and national news related to urban planning and development, public transportation, housing, parks, and more. Topics have included West Lafayette development plans, Indiana's attempts to ban Bus Rapid Transit at a state level, removal of parking minimums in cities across America, and more.- Attending local meetings, including city council meetings, Tippecanoe County Area Planning Commission meetings, and CityBus public input sessions.- Touring the local history, architecture, and urban fabric of Lafayette and West Lafayette and discussing how our area has changed over time and what its future may hold.- Trips to cities in the region to explore architecture, transit projects, and walkable, human-oriented neighborhoods and streets. Potential destinations include day trips to Chicago via the Amtrak Cardinal and Indianapolis via the Campus Connect shuttle.All majors and students are welcome to join – just drop by during any meeting!
