Animania is the anime club at the University of Michigan. With over 40 years of storied history, the Japanese Animation Film Society at the University of Michigan, colloquially dubbed Animania, is one of the oldest collegiate Anime clubs in the nation. Our goal is to provide an inclusive environment for anime fans to create lifelong friendships and have fun. We are a social club that is passionate about anime and we host a wide variety of activities and events for our members. We have meetings every week, and a special weekend event every month. Weekly meetings consist of an anime screening (voted for by members), weekly announcements, and an activity.Some highlights of our club activities include:Weekly Meeting Activities: anime charades, anime bingo, pitch a new anime (with constraints from EBoard!), anime trivia, karaoke, game shows, and many more!Monthly Weekend Events: game nights, movie nights, seasonal binges, picnics, and arcade visitsConventions: Organized trips (with group cosplays!) to nearby anime conventions such as Youmacon (Detroit, MI).Seasonal anime discussionsDiscord gaming groups Manga ClubAlongside anime club, we also have Manga Club, which meets every week, 30 minutes before Animania meetings. Facilitated by the Vice President, Manga Club is basically a book club for manga. This group reads a few volumes (or sometimes the entirety of!) a manga series every week, and meets to discuss their thoughts. Whether it’s diving in depth on overarching themes and characterization, or simply sharing which parts you liked and didn’t like, everyone is encouraged to attend manga club! Con Ja NaiAnimania even has our own annual anime convention: Con Ja Nai! Con Jai Nai is a free-entry anime convention staffed entirely by our club members, and takes place here at the University of Michigan!
