Friends of Guatemala is a volunteer organization founded in 2023 at the University of Michigan with the goal of supporting the educational journeys of students in the Q'eqchi' Mayan village Seacacar, but also in other parts of eastern Guatemala. Through raising money for donations, gathering educational supplies such as books and technology, and establishing a tutoring relationship between UMich students and the young students of our partner communities, we aim to improve access to education for communities who have historically been denied such opportunities.Friends of Guatemala provides members the opportunity to participate in international community service and take part in building important relationships with students abroad through fundraising and/or weekly tutoring sessions. Members are not required to be tutors, and members are not required to know Spanish or Q’eqchi'. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
