The RageThe Maize Rage is a student cheering section for Michigan Basketball that emphasizes spirit and sportsmanship in its support of both Men's and Women's Basketball. The Maize Rage's 3000+ members strive to provide a vocal presence at Crisler Arena, as well as to promote the University of Michigan’s Basketball program across campus and beyond. The Maize Rage also aims to support a myriad of other varsity sports including volleyball, baseball, and softball. The CoreThe Maize Rage Core is a smaller group of students who meet weekly to discuss and implement the operations of the Maize Rage. All members of the Maize Rage are invited to attend meeting of the Maize Rage Core with questions, comments, and concerns about the Maize Rage. Meetings are used to present news ideas, plan road trips, debate the effectiveness of chants, explore new ways to improve the overall basketball experience at Crisler Center, and many more. The Core serve as liaisons between the Maize Rage and several of the other groups instrumental to the game day atmosphere at Crisler Center, including the Athletic Department, Dance Team, Cheer Team, Pep Band, and the team itself.MembershipAll student section season ticket holders are official members of the Maize Rage. There are no mandatory requirements, fees, or dues associated with membership of the Maize Rage. Members who wish to have a greater involvement in the Maize Rage are invited to join the Maize Rage Core, a smaller group of students who have a greater hand in the formation, planning, and operations of the Maize Rage.HistoryThe Maize Rage was unofficially founded in the mid to late 1990s, a downtime for the Michigan Basketball program, and was officially recognized in the year 2000 by University of Michigan students. Since its formation, the Maize Rage has transformed Crisler Center into one of the most distinctive home court advantages in the Big Ten and NCAA.Pre-game:During the National Anthem, yell “Hail!” and raise your fist as the word is sang.Go! Blue! Chant with the basketball band during opposing team intros.“Swag Surf” with the introduction hype video and get crazy when each player is announced.Offensive ChantsHere we go Michigan, here we go! (clap clap)In certain cases, we target a certain player and boo them any time the ball is in their hands.When Opposition Shoots Free-ThrowsGo… Blue… chant with pep bandYou will miss! / You will miss again!After missing the first free throw, yell “0 for 1!”If a player is taking a long time to shoot, count from 1-10 fast to pressure them to shootBark at the shooterCreate total silence, then one person screamsListen to the center section for other improvised chantsWhen Michigan Shoots Free Throws:Raise your hands and wiggle your fingers when the shooter gets the ball from the official. Upon making it, lower your hands and yell "WOOSH".
