Bellydance at Berkeley
Dance
Bellydance at Berkeley’s main goal is to provide a space for students to take care of their minds and bodies while learning an underrepresented style of dance. For many busy Berkeley students, finding the time and space to exercise or be involved in leisure activities can be challenging. Dance is a creative outlet where students can express themselves while getting in exercise for the day. Bellydance at Berkeley also aims to highlight the culture that surrounds bellydance and what it means to be a dancer appreciating a non-native style while being aware of boundaries. Bellydance is often overlooked even in the dance world, amongst a wide variety of more Western styles. Bringing this to Berkeley opens up a space for experienced and non-experienced dancers alike to expand their horizons and gives them an opportunity to find a style that sparks interest in them.
