Taekwondo (태권도) is a traditional Korean martial art known for its fluid footwork and the development of fast, fancy, and explosive kicks. Taekwondo has been an official Olympic sport since 2000, has recently been the cause of global sensation through dynamic demonstrations on TV shows like America's Got Talent, and is the most widely practiced martial art in the world (70+ million in over 200+ countries)!!The Michigan Taekwondo Club (UMTKD) welcomes people of ALL levels of experience: anyone from black belts who have been competing their entire lives, former trainees a few years out of practice, those coming from other martial arts backgrounds, all the way to brand-new first-timers with no athletic experience at all!! NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME!!We are a member school of the Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference (ECTC) and while competing is NOT MANDATORY (though highly encouraged), we frequently send members to compete at MIT, Brown, Cornell, Princeton, etc. against Ivy League- and other East coast-based schools in both sparring (kyorugi) and forms (poomsae) events. We compete following the WT (World Taekwondo) or Olympic-style rules. For more information, check out our website: http://umtaekwondo.clubhttps://youtu.be/oBuSXw0BNU4
