The goal of PalMD is to create a dynamic and multifaceted platform in order to provide skills and knowledge to students on palliative and end-of-life care, regardless of desired specialty, through three main initiatives: shadowing, education, and advocacy for the incorporation of primary palliative care training to all MD students. PalMD connects medical students with shadowing opportunities to gain insight into palliative medicine in clinical settings and to establish relationships with healthcare providers in those settings. PalMD helps educate students on issues surrounding palliative and end-of-life care through a diverse range of experiences, such as through skills sessions and a dynamic lecture series. PalMD will additionally work with the medical school to incorporate formal education around palliative care concepts into the MD curriculum. Finally, PalMD works to help empower students to cope with difficult encounters on and off the wards through a palliative care lens, simultaneously helping to promote the wellness of the medical student community in facing such encounters.
