She's the First (STF) is a national nonprofit organization that fights gender inequality through education: we team up with grassroots organizations to make sure girls everywhere are educated, respected, and heard. A girl’s ability to decide her own future path often rests on her access to quality education, which is why STF proudly partners with many community-based organizations in 11 countries to ensure girls can attend school and after-school programming. According to UNICEF and the World Bank, 129 million girls are currently not in school and "are denied an education, told who and when to marry, and blocked from leadership. Educated and respected girls are the exception, not the norm."Here at the University of Michigan, our main goal is to educate and raise money for girls who do not have access to education. We host fundraisers, informative meetings to educate club members as part of the Global Awareness Project, and social events for members to bond.
