Community Service & Volunteering
The SGC seeks to educate the student body on the value of philanthropy at the University of Michigan, show the impact that philanthropic giving has on all students at the university, and fundraise for meaningful and impactful causes on campus. The SGC ensures that the student perspective on giving and philanthropy is well represented and heard by the university. The council empowers members to grow as leaders on campus and gain valuable skills related to fundraising, event planning, marketing, and more.With the support of the University Student Philanthropy Team (SP), the objective of the SGC is to build a culture of philanthropy at the University of Michigan, to encourage lifelong engagement with the university, and to inspire a commitment to financially supporting the mission of the institution that starts on campus and lasts long beyond graduation.The SGC defines philanthropy at U-M as the giving of money, time, expertise, and resources to better the university community.
