Tutors for Refugee Education Equality (TREE) is an organization founded and based in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the University of Michigan. Our members are undergraduate and graduate volunteer tutors at the University of Michigan. We provide free personalized tutoring (virtual) to refugee children/children of refugees of all ages. We are in connection with several refugee assisting organizations across Michigan that pass along our info to anyone who may need it. The tutors in TREE are all volunteers. This is a great opportunity to receive consistent volunteer hours! We hold the requirement that all volunteers meet with their assigned student once a week for at least an hour. All accepted tutors fill out an information form highlighting their subject and grade level strengths, and are matched with a student with the appropriate needs. Training and guiding educational materials will be provided for reference. Sorting out the time, duration, and other logistical information is left to the tutor to arrange with the student in a way that works with both of their schedules. This is a great opportunity for those looking for teaching experience, volunteer hours, and a way to make a positive impact in the world around them. Please submit our application if you’d like to become a tutor by Sept 3rd, 2024! If you miss the deadline and would still like the apply, please email treeexecutive@umich.edu.
