Supermileage is a student-led multidisciplinary project team creating high efficiency single occupant electric vehicles and internal combustion vehicles to compete in the annual Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) Americas event.  Established in 2010, Supermileage has raced vehicles at both the SEM and SAE Supermileage competitions. Currently, Supermileage races annually at the Shell Eco-Marathon. Historically, the competition has taken place in Indianapolis IN, Sonoma CA, Fontana CA, Houston TX, Detroit MI, and more. The competition has three energy categories (Battery Electric, Internal Combustion, Hydrogen Fuel Cell) and two body-style categories (Prototype, Urban Concept) providing 6 possible divisions to race in. Currently our team is preparing our battery electric prototype vehicle, Magnolia, and our internal combustion urban concept vehicle, Maple, for the 2024 Shell Eco Marathon. In the past our vehicles have achieved 4,536.693 MPG. This year, Supermileage has ambitions to attain 10,000 MPGe for our prototype electric vehicle, and 700 MPG for our internal combustion vehicle. We can only achieve these lofty goals with your help! Our team’s success relies on the diverse talents, perspectives, and backgrounds of our members. Some of our current members’ fields of study include Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Environmental Science, Business, Finance, Art & Design, and more. However, ALL MAJORS ARE WELCOME!  Our team is broken up into 2 major divisions and an executive board. THE ENGINEERING DIVISION is responsible for the design and manufacturing of our vehicles. We have 5 engineering sub-teams, namely Electrical Systems, Mechanical Systems, Aerodynamics, Internal Combustion, and Vehicle Integration, and all engineering is overseen by the chief engineer.Electrical Systems has two primary focuses: power electronics for our electric drivetrain and vehicle telemetry for data collection and race strategy. The design and testing of the PCB’s which control an electric motor running our car is all done in house. Additionally, electrical systems develops vehicle telemetry software and hardware, tunes motor control algorithms, designs our electrical harnesses, simulates our vehicles, and more.Mechanical Systems is responsible for chassis design and manufacturing, transmission, steering, brakes, suspension, and more. Members of the mechanical systems team use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) softwares to to model and simulate the entire vehicle prior to manufacturing. They also utilize the mill, lathe, CNC mill, CNC lathe, CNC router, and welder while manufacturing our vehicles.Aerodynamics has two main responsibilities pertaining to the bodies of our vehicles. Iteratively modeling and simulating the body in NX CAD and Hyperworks Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) softwares. And manufacturing the body using carbon fiber layups.Internal Combustion primarily focuses on the GY6 moped engine currently used in our ICE car, Maple. The team tunes the engine’s software by modifying the engine control unit (ECU) code. Additionally, they develop the transmission of our ICE vehicles, ensuring energy is transferred from the engine to the tires most efficiently.  This year, the team plans to optimize the engine’s performance using a dynamometer to create an optimal fuel efficiency map.Vehicle Integration uses systems engineering principles to ensure that all aspects of the vehicle work together in unison. They develop tests designed to ensure that the vehicle is both structurally sound and safe for the driver while remaining optimally fuel efficient. Most importantly, they promote proper communication and collaboration between each sub-team. THE BUSINESS DIVISION is responsible for all other aspects of the team. It is comprised of Public Relations, Sponsorship, Finance, and Internal Relations.Public Relations is respons
