Young Democratic Socialists of America at the University of Michigan
Political & Advocacy
The Chapter’s mission is to educate and organize students and young people to play a principled role in the movement for social and economic justice that fall under any leftist tendency. Only through democratic control of our economy, or socialism, can liberation be achieved. We seek social change toward full democratic control of our society. Our vision of socialism is fundamentally feminist, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, anti-racist, and LGBTQ+ inclusive. We reject discrimination and inequality on the basis of age, ability, religious belief, or cultural background. We work towards bringing our goals to fruition through supporting organized labor, grassroots organizing, community engagement, and partnering with other like-minded student organizations in order to build a campus coalition dedicated to positive and substantive societal change. Active membership shall be limited to persons officially connected with the University of Michigan as faculty, staff, or registered students. In addition, the following requirements are necessary to constitute active members: attend three events a semester and is a current dues-paying or dues-waived member of DSA
