Founded in Boston in 2017 and brought to Atlanta in 2019, Continuo offers young musicians the opportunity to share their music with new audiences and explore the powerful intersection of classical music and community leadership. Our mission is to empower young musicians to establish meaningful relationships with their communities through innovative performance and mentorship, redefining the roles of performer and audience. Continuo is entirely student-run, forming a musical community of students from all over Boston and Atlanta – including local high schools, New England Conservatory, Harvard, Emory, Northeastern, and Boston University.
At Continuo, we offer two different programs: Community Performance Series and Teaching Residencies. Through our Community Performance Series, Continuo musicians perform in community performances for a wide range of audiences from nursing homes to soup kitchens. Each concert features a unique set of musicians and an innovative approach focused on audience engagement. Through our Teaching Residencies, Continuo musicians participate in both long-term and short-term residencies, drawing upon their musical experience to teach elementary school students with a combination of individualized private lessons, chamber music, chamber orchestra, and performances. Our comprehensive approach to music education combined with incredible passion and experience from our teachers allows our students to progress quickly. We inspire our musicians to become part of a larger initiative by taking their music out of the concert hall and into communities around the United States. At Continuo, we believe in the power of music to transform the lives of our students. We aim to build long-lasting relationships with our students and to guide them towards becoming leaders in their generation. Our teachers walk alongside the students as they navigate and persevere through the hardships that accompany any first endeavor. Connecting experienced young musicians with younger learners is an inspiring and enriching experience for both.
