"PHR National Student Program's mission is to create a community of future leaders committed to ending human rights violations through careers guided by a human rights framework. The National Student Program provides medical students and young professionals with the resources to engage with the larger Physicians for Human Rights network to help cultivate skills as advocates for health and human rights locally, nationally, and globally." The primary way in which Emory students have engaged with PHR is through starting a human rights clinic (Georgia Human Rights Clinic). It is officially affiliated with both Emory and PHR. The purpose of the human rights clinic is to provide unbiased forensic evaluations with the purpose of providing an affidavit which can be used to aid the asylum seeker or trafficking survivor's legal team in their court hearing. For example, the national average of asylum application approval in the US is about 50%. In Georgia, it is 2-4% and these evaluations can provide more objectivity to asylum seekers' claims. In addition, we have goals of education, advocacy and collaboration with a variety of organizations working with asylum seekers and survivors of other violations of human rights throughout Georgia.
