Sprouting Readers was developed as a program of Emory University’s Urban Health Initiative and primarily works with children in the pre-K-5th grade living around metro Atlanta where a large percentage of children are reading below their grade level. Statistically, kids who are reading at below-grade-level by the time they reach third grade are unlikely to graduate high school, and so our program aims to tackle this issue through promotion of health and gardening education through our unique combination of book discussions with nutrition-focused curriculum and hands-on activities.
