Oxford Students for Prison Education, Activism, and Resistance
Political & Advocacy
OxSPEAR is a political student organization dedicated to facilitating campus- and community-wide discussions on the prison-industrial complex and its ramifications. We seek to resist and disrupt this complex through political education and action with the goal of abolishing this harmful system. OxSPEAR has three pillars: political education, abolition in practice, and mutual aid. Through these pillars, we seek to foster a community that stands in solidarity against systemic racism, queerphobia, ableism, and xenophobia, informed by Black femininist and abolitionist thought. In addition, we seek to support, center, and connect with those directly impacted by the carceral state. Through digital content, on-campus meetings and actions, and a participatory structure, we hope to further the fight against prisons, police, and punishment.
