Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 145,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide and is America’s oldest national engineering society.Northeastern University's ASCE student chapter (NU ASCE) help their members develop interpersonal and professional relationships through a variety of extracurricular activities and community service projects within the field of civil and environmental engineering. Each week we hold a lecture presented by a different professional working in civil and environmental engineering careers. We work closely with a variety of civil and environmental engineering clubs and organizations, such as Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Steel Bridge Club, Concrete Canoe, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Northeastern University Sustainable Building Organization (NUSBO), and New England Water Environmental Association (NEWEA); and we participate in the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge competitions. NU ASCE also coordinates with Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society to organize tutoring for civil and environmental engineering students, and has helped with 30 years of community service projects.
