The purpose of this organization will be on bettering the mental wellness of its members and spreading crucial information, support, and awareness in order for its members to improve their own and others’ mental health around campus. This organization will be vital to campus and its wonderful students and faculty, as it aims to combat this prevalent problem of mental unwellness in today’s youth society. In today’s modern day and age, mental illness is at an all-time high. In fact, since the COVID-19 global pandemic started, the leading mental illnesses of depression and anxiety have increased by an astounding 25% throughout the globe [WHO]. On top of this, the youth of the world have been the worst hit. Mental illness rates amongst the youth of the United States have skyrocketed in the past few years, resulting in an estimated 49.5% of young adults reporting some form of mental illness at some point in their recent lives [HHS]. As campus houses tens of thousands of young adults, it can be said that there is quite a bit of mental unwellness among its dedicated and diverse group of students. In fact, a survey in 2022 found that 77% of college students reported experiencing moderate to severe psychological distress [WHO]. This is an alarmingly high rate that needs to be addressed. The club’s leadership team will be fully dedicated to the cause of improving the well-being of the students on campus. The club is confident in the fact that it can make a difference in the lives of students and that it can make all the stress of being a young adult on a huge campus a little less stressful. This will be done by hosting weekly meetings with an activity planned for each session. The club’s founder has researched various methods and activities that have been proven to boost the mental wellness and wellbeing of people. These activities include topics such as creativity, meditation, and walking. Each meeting will be focused on one of these topics. For one meeting the club may go to the art museum on campus and paint for a while. Another may be meditation in the botanical gardens. In addition, the club will provide its members with crucial information, knowledge, and skills that will aid their well-being and that of those around them. The club is confident in that this will have a massive impact on campus.
