Soil Judging Club
Environmental
Soil Judging is the interpretation and evaluation of soil for a multitude of uses. This organization specializes in the ability to teach anyone how to read and describe a soil accurately. Real world experiences involve interpreting soil for highway construction, basement development, septic installation, orchard and crop usage, and land conservation. Students will be able to explore Michigan soils on field trip days or in our labs here at MSU. This organization also doubles as a competitive team; every fall semester there is a regional soil judging contest, every spring semester there is a national soil judging contest, and every four years there is an international competition. Our hope is prepare students to compete and display their own soil judging knowledge as well as provide students with ample field and hands-on experience before graduation.
