As the only speech club at Michigan State, Spartan Speech takes on the task of hosting a forensics tournament for more than 400 high school students every February. Starting in 2017, Spartan Speech has provided speech coaching to students both at Michigan State and at high schools across the country.Since its beginning, Spartan Speech has grown its club membership greatly, leading to students from other universities coming to the Spartan Invitational to volunteer and help.Even through the COVID-19 pandemic, Spartan Speech held its dedication to forensics speech activities by hosting two online tournaments.Spartan Speech started out as a club with one purpose — for former forensicators to stay involved in speech activities. However, as the club has evolved, Spartan Speech has become a resource for the Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association (MIFA). Not only does Spartan Speech host an invitational every year, but they also now stay engaged with students year-round on Instagram and offer virtual coaching to students in high school and college.Spartan Speech's annual invitational differs from other forensics invitationals because it provides a variety of activities for students who do not make it to the final round of competition, like an acapella concert.
