The Thomistic Institute at Michigan State is an East Lansing-based chapter as part of the international organization, the Thomistic Institute, that "exists to promote Catholic truth in our contemporary world by strengthening the intellectual formation of Christians at universities, in the Church, and in the wider public square." In parallel, the Thomistic Institute at Michigan State promotes academic discussion of the Catholic church’s intellectual tradition, placing particular emphasis on the thought of the 13th-century philosopher and theologian, Thomas Aquinas. The goal of the chapter is to "make the Catholic intellectual tradition vibrantly present" on MSU's campus. The chapter hosts speaker events on campus where Christian intellectual speakers come to share Thomistic-based and non-Thomistic ideas and perspectives through lectures or seminars. Speakers' topics span from tackling the question: "Are Science and Religion Compatible?" to understanding Freedom and Free Will. Each speaker event offers the listener a new perspective on Catholic values. All Thomistic Institute lectures on campus are free and open to the public.
