Cape Verdean Student Association
International & Multicultural
The Cape Verdean Student Association seeks to create a community on campus open to students of Cape Verdean ancestry to connect, engage in a shared culture, and bond with others through various events and general body meetings. Cape Verdeans are present throughout Massachusetts in areas such as Dorchester, Brockton, New Bedford, Fall River, etc. We believe that founding Boston University’s first Cape Verdean Student Association allows us to create a unified student group where students can represent and take pride in our country and culture, and set the stage for future Cape Verdean students to connect with others. However, CVSA is not catered to only Cape Verdean students, CVSA encourages all interested students to indulge themselves in a new culture and learn about CV culture, language, food, and history. This club aspires to collaborate with other cultural institutions on and off campus to highlight and acknowledge the beauty of other under-represented cultures around the world and promote cross-cultural unity. Through the organization, we hope to fundraise for the Cape Verdean islands for multiple causes and provide resources such as school supplies, clothing, canned goods, and other essentials. We are eager to host fun events such as dance classes and cultural food nights to spread our culture with the BU’s student body. Introducing a Cape Verdean Student Association to Boston University’s campus would undoubtedly give a voice to an underrepresented ethnic group, and help create a recognized diverse environment on campus.
