What we do:We are a group of students that aim to build the best Mars Rover to compete in the University Rover Challenge (URC) annually. URC, supported by the Mars Society, is the world’s premier university robotics competition that aims to build the next generation of Mars rovers that will work alongside astronauts on the Red Planet in the future. In addition, we plan on reaching out to other local high schools to teach teenagers about Mars, robotics, and life science. Who we are:Although most are engineering students in 4 different fields: mechanical, electrical, computer, and biochemical engineering, the team also has businesses and other stem students. In fact, in 2022, about 30% of members are from the College of Art and Science, according to our stats. We currently have 55+ active members committed to our rover team technical project, planning outreach events, and fundraising in the upcoming school year. How we run the Mars rover club and technical team: The E-Board members plan and conduct outreach events, raise money and host weekly meetings to help members keep up with the competition schedule. We are assembled into eight sub-teams to work on four different competition missions depending on their interests and skills. These four missions are:A Science Mission to investigate a site for the presence of current or past life.A Delivery Mission to deliver a variety of objects to astronauts in the field across rugged terrain. An Equipment Servicing Mission to perform dexterous operations on a mock lander using a robotic arm.An Autonomous Traversal Mission to autonomously travel to a site and locate a marker.
