Cal Chorale Rehearses on Wednesdays and Fridays 4-6pm in CRH, the Choral Rehearsal Room in SMA in the Caesar Chavez Basement (see below for directions; Actual start time is Berkeley Time at 4:10. We also offer optional one-on-one and sectional rehearsals on Mondays 4-6 for students that would like extra musical support. Some singers have conflicts with some rehearsals time, and that is allowed in many cases.

Prior to fall 2022, the Cal Chorale was the Women’s Chorale and the Men’s Chorale, who sang some mixed-voice repertoire together. In fall 2022, the choirs officially merged to become Cal Chorale (SATB repertoire) with the subgroups Treble Chorale (SSAA repertoire) and Basso Chorale (TTBB repertoire).

With approximately 50-60 singers, We aim to be Cal’s most inclusive choral ensemble. Where other ensembles at Cal focus on a specific type of repertoire choral (classical, a cappella, jazz) – we sing music of all styles and genres, including classical, folk, pop, and jazz styles in all voicings. We welcome singers of all genders and all ethnic & music backgrounds. We offer opportunities to develop vocal technique in a variety of styles and to strengthen theory and musicianship skills.

The choir gives several performances each semester, including in UCCE (UC Choral Ensembles) concerts, Cal Rallies, Welcome Back A Cappella, our Fall Show, choral festivals, and other events. The singers socialize regularly and create a welcoming place for singers to connect.
