Stanford Students for Justice in Palestine
Social Justice
Mission1) Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community members at Stanford University, organized on principles to promote justice, human rights, liberation, and self-determination for the Palestinian people.2) SJP is a space comprised of both Palestinian and non-Palestinian students, engaged in self-determination and solidarity, respectively. Within SJP, we defer to the leadership and vision of Palestinian students whenever possible.3) SJP views the liberation of the Palestinian people as bound up with the liberation of all oppressed people.4) SJP supports a one-state solution for Palestine in which all ethnicities can live under equal rights.5) SJP is committed to organizing for the liberation of Palestine from settler colonial rule. This entails a democratic, plurinational one-state solution to initiate the process of decolonization. What we identify decolonization to be composed of includes:The right of return for Palestinians and the Palestinian diaspora.A process of land reform which adequately addresses the injustice of dispossession and creates the conditions of peace and reconciliation. The right to defense and resistance for occupied peoples to survive and demand their sovereignty (per the UN resolution 37/43).6) SJP knows that the occupation, apartheid, and colonization of Palestine is a result of U.S/Western imperialism and capitalism. Stanford SJP is committed to understanding and organizing for the liberation of Palestine, and all oppressed peoples, knowing that dismantling systems of oppression such as imperialism and capitalism is at the center of it all. We are committed to people’s struggle around the world and understand the Palestinian struggle to have the potential to inculcate anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist ideology within other US social movements.7) SJP acknowledges the land we occupy on Turtle Island, and fights for the liberation of all indigenous peoples globally. Both the US and Israel were founded as European settler colonial outposts, created through the ethnic cleansing of native peoples in order to gain control of maximum land and resources for a white ruling class. Palestinians and Indigenous Populations globally unite and feel the connections in their struggles which are deeply intertwined, which is why it is imperative to understand that Palestine is an Indigenous Struggle, one that we can tangibly support and advocate for.8) SJP recognizes the history of settler colonialism in the Americas – a history that sees Islamophobia, anti-Indigenous narratives, anti-Blackness, antisemitism, homophobia, ableism, and classism as inextricably bound. Active solidarity is crucial to mobilizing people for global collective livingness, thriving and liberation.
