Mission
CampMed at UCI aspires to inspire students who face low socioeconomic barriers to pursue higher education by providing exposure to undergraduate mentors, UC Irvine faculty, as well as healthcare professionals. CampMed at UCI is a student-run high school outreach program that was founded by UCI medical and undergraduate students in 1997. There was an increasing need for a local program that would target socio-economically disadvantaged high school students interested in pursuing higher education, particularly in the health science fields. Currently in its 27th year of existence, CampMed at UCI has reached out to over 5,000 high school students from Los Angeles and Orange County schools. In addition, the CampMed program has expanded to other UC campuses such as UCLA (2013), UC Riverside (2016), and UC Santa Barbara (2023).
