Mission
MEMO (Medical, Educational Missions and Outreach) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, student-run, humanitarian organization that seeks to serve the underprivileged by addressing their medical and educational needs. We are comprised of volunteer students, physicians, and other health professionals. Every year, we raise money and medical supplies to send back to Vietnam. Of the group of volunteers, students from UCI, UCSD, and USC have the opportunity to travel to Vietnam to witness the beautiful impact our help provides. MEMO's primary goal is to provide medical care and educational opportunities to the impoverished villagers in Vietnam. By supplying the villagers with the fundamental needs (health and education) deprived of them by poverty, M.E.M.O. hopes to give them a foundation in which they can raise themselves out of their current living conditions. M.E.M.O. also aims to spread awareness of the abject poverty seen in third world countries to the younger generation in the U.S. to propagate the notion of social responsibility into a brighter future.
Membership Benefits
Official members of M.E.M.O. receive the following benefits:
- Opportunities to get trained to be a volunteer medical assistant; no license required
- Gain insight into multiple healthcare fields and careers through numerous workshops led by health professionals
- Establish foundational hands-on medical skills and gain direct patient experience by volunteering at health fairs and a health clinic
- Opportunities to volunteer at local philanthropies that pertain to health education and providing nutritional resources
- Develop meaningful friendships with like-minded caring individuals
- Opportunity to volunteer abroad in Vietnam
